Bonpoint, (Paris)
We recently visited the huge Bonpoint boutique (which is practically the size of a mall) not far from the Hôtel Jardin de l’Odéon, and it’s amazing: a historic Parisian townhouse impeccably decorated with luxury setting for the brand’s luxury childrenswear, toys, a coffee shop and prices beyond belief, but hey: that’s part of what Paris is about! Here’s our (luxury) video tour and photo report.
If you do know the Bonpoint name – luxury fashion for kids – perhaps you should have a quick look at their rather sleek website. The history of the company is succinctly explained there: founded in 1975, now an international phenomenon with over 80 stores worldwide. And since 2006, they also have a very, very large concept store in rue Tournon, not far from the Senate, in a townhouse dating from the 17th century.Over 1,000 square metres to see, an interior garden with terrace for the coffee shop, ancient parquet and fittings… Very impressive stuff…
You’ll feel like you’ve walked into another world. In Paris, nothing is more precious than space and calm, and Bonpoint has them both in abundance. We went on a quiet morning in December of last year, and felt like we had the place to ourselves. The vast first room gives you a taste of what’s to come, with its reproduction of a forest and roaming wildlife…
Afterwards there’s room after room with different styles of decoration and clothes, huge spaces with high ceilings. Unreal! In amongst the lines of perfectly arranged clothes – and this is a very clever idea of theirs – you’ll also find toys and books that remind you of your own childhood, a time when life was simpler, slower and less stressful. It’s difficult to resist…
Three rooms visited. Twice as many still await. By going deeper into the building you’ll be going alongside the garden, through a white room, up some stairs to see the shoes, back down for even more rooms before finally arriving in a very long space for boyswear, filled with even more toys…
After that, you’ll have to turn back and go back through all the rooms to reach the exit, or… why not go downstairs and try out the coffee shop, have a hot or cold drink, a bite to eat, relax on the terrace (during the warm months)…? It has two large, colourful spaces where – once again – everything looks very good, and you don’t even have to be a customer of the shop to go there…
